about wafers

the story travels one square at a time. each person knows only what the person immediately before them left behind.

how to play

  1. take a turn. if no comic is waiting, you begin one on a blank panel.
  2. look backward. otherwise, you see the previous panel and three short phrases from its artist.
  3. draw forward. use the 500 by 500 canvas to continue the story in whatever direction seems right.
  4. leave a trail. panels one through nine include three phrases for the next artist. panel ten gives the comic its title.
  5. mind the clock. a turn lasts twenty minutes. active artists can ask for five more minutes once during the final minute.
  6. wait for the reveal. a finished comic enters the gallery after a quick human approval.

why it exists

wafers is a tribute to a long-lost fusion comic project created by daniel bogan at waferbaby.com. that project helped make the early web feel handmade, connected, and pleasantly strange.

this is a fresh implementation with its own artwork and code. it keeps the small-letter spirit and the collaborative surprise.

house rules

be surprising without being cruel. do not draw private information, targeted harassment, or illegal material. each comic is reviewed before it becomes public.
